Justin Coleman is a licensed professional engineer and a seismic/structural engineering group lead at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) with a master's degree in engineering structures and mechanics. Mr. Coleman's background is in seismic analysis and spent fuel cask and canister impact analysis with over 12 years of experience. Much of the impact analysis work is performed using Explicit Finite Element Analysis (FEA) codes. He has performed linear and nonlinear seismic soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis. He has also performed nonlinear time domain collapse analysis of nuclear structures to determine margin to failure and necessary mitigation to prevent collapse. His research interests are broad, and include nonlinear seismic SSI analysis, seismic protective systems, spent fuel transportation and storage, and beyond design basis threats to nuclear structures.

Mr. Coleman serves on the ASCE 4, "Seismic Analysis of Safety-Related Nuclear Structures and Commentary" where he is the lead of Chapter 3, "Modeling of Structures," and led the effort to author Appendix B, "Nonlinear Time Domain Soil-Structure Interaction Analysis," in the forthcoming ASCE 4.  He also serves on ASCE 43, "Seismic Design Criteria for Structures, Systems, and Components in Nuclear Facilities," where he is the lead of Chapter 3, "Evaluation of Seismic Demand". Mr. Coleman has authored numerous reports on impact analysis of spent fuel casks and nuclear fuel, and seismic analysis.

Andrew Slaughter

Software Development Lead

Email: andrew.slaughter@inl.gov

Andrew began his academic studies focusing on structural engineering while studying at Michigan Tech University (B.S.) and Washington State University (M.S.). He shifted focus for a Ph.D. at Montana State University where he studied Applied Engineering Mechanics and researched snow and avalanche physics. This worked included extensive field, laboratory, and computational research and paved the way for him being awarded a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship at Cornell University in 2011, where he focused on developing a phase-tracking snow microstructure model. In 2013, Andrew joined INL and the MOOSE team, adding to the wide spectrum of research expertise of the team.

Robert started work at the INL in January 1991. Most of his career has been spent working with linear and nonlinear finite element analysis. Early in his career, his work was primarily in structure design and analysis. In the middle of his career, his work was primarily elastic/plastic evaluation of accidents involving impact. More recently, his work has been primarily linear and nonlinear soil-structure analysis. He joined the Seismic Research Group in September 2013. He has a Bachelor's degree from Oregon State University in Mechanical Engineering and Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Idaho in Mechanical Engineering.

Will joined the Seismic Research Group in September of 2016. He began working at INL as an intern in the Fuel Modeling and Simulation department during the summer of 2012. Since then, he has worked closely with the INL during additional internships and research efforts. In his past experience with the lab, Will has performed transient analyses of irradiated reactor pressure vessels using the INL's Grizzly code, a MOOSE based application. His Master's research focused on the development of reduced order models to simulate probabilistic fracture mechanics. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho.
